Spend a day with two PPA award-winning pet photographers and learn how to get started or build your skills photographing dogs in the studio! The first half of this action-packed day will cover everything you need to have a successful studio session. Topics include lighting, equipment, attention-getting, and posing dogs (plus dogs with their people). We will also discuss canine body language and how to manage both the owner and the dog(s) during the session. Presentation of key content, live demonstrations, and hands-on practice for participants will provide a variety of learning experiences.
The second half of the day will cover basic post-processing in LR and then more advanced “correction” techniques in PS such as eye brightening, collar and leash removal, background extensions, tongue shrinkage, and modesty edits. Learn how to use layers and non-destructive editing, and that the patch tool is your new best friend. We will also discuss more advanced head-swapping and compositing concepts. Participants can practice editing techniques on images they shot in the morning.

When you’re done with the class, head on over to Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark, a 45-minute drive from the studio, to hang out with the speakers as they prepare for PPO’s Annual Convention on Sunday and Monday!
This is a PPA Continuing Education Class - attendees who are PPA members in good standing will received one merit.

Susan Gertz, M.Photog.M.Artist.Cr., CPP, APAI From her earliest childhood memories of the family Weimaraner, Brutus, Susan has shared a deep bond of love with furry family members. Susan pursued her interest in animals by completing a Bachelor’s degree in zoology and a Master’s Degree in biology, focusing on animal behavior. Working in the science education field for nearly 30 years, Susan has shared her love and knowledge of biology as a zoo educator and an author and designer of science books. As a pet photographer, Susan brings her animal experience and artistic vision together to create fine art portraits of clients' beloved pets. Susan is a proud recipient of numerous state and national awards for her animal portraits and is an Accredited Professional of Animal Imagery.

Danica Barreau
Danica Barreau is a PPA Master Artist, Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman, ISAP Accredited Professional of Animal Imagery, and Certified Professional Photographer with a studio in Grove City, Ohio, specializing in pet photography and digital art. Danica has been photographing pets for rescues since 2005 and opened her own studio in 2015. She is a 7-time GIA nominee and Ohio Artist of the Year for five years running.
